Mayhem Steamroller

Why this derby name and number?
I wanted a derby name that was some sort of musical pun (I adore puns) and a friend thought of this for me. The number used to be A440, which fellow musical nerds will understand. I dropped the 'A' when WFTDA rules changed, but the 440 stuck.

What is your hometown?
Whitewater, Wisconsin

What position(s) do you play?
Blocker and pivot with dreams of one day being a jammer

How long have you been playing derby?
I started in early 2011 with a recreational league, but was a bit off and on with my participation for a while. In the spring of 2014 I decided it was time to either put up or shut up as far as my skates were concerned and became officially obsessed.

Current occupation?
Middle school band teacher (I am tough in ways you can't even imagine)

Who is your derby wife?
Apparently my derby relationship status mimics that of my actual life-forever alone

Drink of choice?
Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet (I'm from Wisconsin!)

How did you get into derby?
Oddly enough, I watched an episode of What Not To Wear in which Stacy and Clinton made over a San Diego derby girl. I'd always really liked skating as a kid and when I realized roller derby was really a thing I instantly wanted to find a derby league near me.

Favorite movie?
Don't laugh too much, but I love any 'feel good' sports movie (even if they are only loosely based on real events). McFarland, USA is the top of my list right now, but I've also lost count of how many times I've seen The Blind Side or Remember the Titans.

Non-derby hobby(s)?
sleeping; hiking, running, or almost anything outdoors in the summer months; hibernating with Netflix and crafting or quilting in the winter months

Favorite song(s) to skate to?
There's all kinds, but Walk Like An Egyptian always makes me think of skating and my 4th grade birthday party at the roller rink!

Words of advice?
The real work starts when you want to give up.

If you could have one superhero power what would it be?
Invisibility
