Roller Derby Sizzles in the Suburbs

Oh Hot Dame! Turn up the air conditioning because the DuPage Derby Dames Outrage take on the Barbed Wire Betties (DeKalb, Illinois) Saturday, July 16, in what is sure to be a scorching good time at their home roller rink, Coachlite Skate Center (Roselle, Illinois).
The Dames are proud to host a thrilling junior roller derby bout to start out this derby-filled summer night! The Chicago Riots—the official junior league of The Chicago Outfit—take on the Killamazoo Killer Beez (Kalamazoo, Michigan). Give your loudest lion “roar” to cheer on these talented young athletes!
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. First bout starts at 6 p.m. Get your tickets at the door for $12 or $10 in advance at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2554425. Kids 8 and are free. Must be 21+ to purchase alcohol.

Derby Stars and Stripes in Local Communities
The Dames rolled out at Glen Ellyn’s annual 4th of July Parade! Tossing candy as they skated along the parade route, the Dames celebrated America with patriotic pride and their fun, festive spirits!
On Saturday, July 9, the Dames will join the People’s Resource Center in Wheaton to restock shelves of produce, diapers, canned goods, meats, cereals, snacks, bread, and baked goods from 8:45 a.m. to noon. They’ll also assist guests visiting the pantry. The Dames support the People’s Resource Center as they respond to basic human needs, promote dignity and justice, and create a future of hope and opportunity for the residents of DuPage County through discovering and sharing personal and community resources.
The Dames will bring literature to life on Tuesday, July 12, at the Oak Park Library at 834 Lake Street from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. They’ll be meeting with young fans of book Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson and answering questions about roller derby. Roller Girl is a Newbery Honor Award Winning and New York Times best-selling graphic novel. It tells the story of 12-year-old Astrid, who learns about friendship, surviving junior high, and girl power through roller derby. The Dames will also demo their derby skills and drills for young readers outside the library. Stop by the learn more about this empowering book and derby life.

Ready to strap on skates and show the Dames you have what it takes? We’re looking for new recruits and experienced skaters to join our internationally-ranked roller derby league. Come to our recruitment night Monday, July 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at our home roller rink, Coachlite Skate Center. The Dames will answer your questions about roller derby and being part of the team. We want to see you there!

The DuPage Derby Dames, formed in 2010, is the premier flat track roller derby league in the suburbs of Chicago. The Dames’ mission is to provide the people of their community with an opportunity to get involved in the exciting, fast-paced sport that fosters respect and builds confidence.
The DuPage Derby Dames strive to promote athleticism and camaraderie among their skaters through competitive sport, regular practice and do-it-yourself management. Every member exhibits behavior that brings honor and distinction to the league, the sport of roller derby and the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
